High Pressure Grinding Roller (HPGR) is utilizes two contra-rotating rollers mounted in a sturdy frame. The rollers rotate towards each other and one roller exerts pressure on the feed material through a hydraulic system. This subjects the feed material to extremely high pressures, sometimes exceeding 650 MPa. The high stress causes fracturing and crushing of particles through a nonlinear combination of compressive and shear forces. The gap between the rollers can be adjusted to control the particle size of the final product. Processed material is discharged from the sides of the rollers in a continuous manner.
