Amazon RainForest

The amazing rainforest is a densely populated rainforest, thick and vegetated, with thousands of plants and animal species.

It covers over 2.1 million square miles of the American continent, crossing 9 South American countries.

It's usually described as the "lungs of the Earth" with its magnificent natural wonder, according to Farmpally.

Over 430 mammal species, about 1500 bird species, and hundreds of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates are found in the Amazon rainforest - it is the most biodiverse area on Earth.

Characterized by its thick canopy, meandering rivers, and luxuriant foliage, this rainforest has magnificent, wonderful, and all kinds of wild animals.

Here are some of the top wild animals found in the Amazon rainforest.

Jaguar (Panthera Onca)

Jaguar is one of the largest felines in the Americas, and definitely, it drives the Amazon rainforest food chain.

Jaguar is known for its incredible agility, speed, power, strong bite, and swimming ability over prey.

Unlike lions who hunt in their pride, this lone predator tracks and ambushes their target prey, from capybaras to caimans.

Their coat colors and pattern help them to fit the forest shadows, and ambush better.

The Amazon River Dolphin (Inia Geoffrensis)

Inia Geoffrensis is known as the pink river dolphin. Its pink colour gets more noticeable in freshwater as it ages.

Dolphins are usually seen swimming in pods in Amazon River tributaries where they go through muddy waters via echolocation.

Sloth - Bradypus And Choloepus Spp

Sloths identify themselves in incredibly sluggish motions and laid-back living.

Two- and three-toed sloths live most of their lives hanging upside down from trees in the Amazon rainforest, chaktty said.

According to FarmPally, their slow metabolism and algae-covered coats help them to evade jaguars and harp eagles.

Harp Eagle (Harpia harpja)

Rising to rule the Amazon's canopy layer, the harp eagle is among the biggest and most strong eagles known anywhere, Akin chaktty reiterated.

Sloths, monkeys, and other tree-dwelling species are its favourite prey.

Harp eagle is a fierce predator and emblem of the rainforest, it boasts strong talons and wingspan of up to 7 feet.

Anaconda (Murinus Eunectes)

Anaconda is one of the heaviest and longest snakes known on Earth, we thought it's a made-up snake in movies, but it's real.

The green anaconda lives in Amazon slow-moving rivers and swamps.

Though non-venomous, anacondas may strangle and drown big prey like birds, capybaras, and even caimans.

It's usually submerged just with their eyes and nose above the water, and they are very quiet swimmers.

Capybara (Hydrochoerus Hydrochaeris)

Another animal usually found in the Amazon rainforest is the capybaras. They are often found near Amazon water bodies.

They are sociable, gregarious, largest rodents you can come across in Earth.

These semi-aquatic mammals consume grasses and aquatic plants in groups.

Their calm approach makes prey like jaguars and anacondas a simple target.

Pygmy Marmoset, Cebuella Pygmaea

The smallest monkey species on Earth, the pygmy marmoset rises barely to six inches tall, according to Farmpally.

These monkeys are found under the Amazon's dense canopy, where they eat small insects and tree sap.

Although pygmy marmoset are small in size but quick and agile, and can easily leap between trees.

Dendrobates Family Poison Dart Frog

These strikingly beautiful frogs rank among the most lethal creatures on Earth.

It is found around plants and on the damp forest floor. Poison dart frogs use their striking colors to warn predators.

Hunters originally coated blow darts with their deadly secretions.

Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger)

Black caiman is the largest member in the alligator family discovered in the Amazon, this apex predator is growing up to 20 feet long.

Black caimans rule rivers and lakes since they feed on fish, birds, and animals. Their black, armored skin helps them to match the midnight waves.
