It seems the Phillies' biggest challenge might come from within. Just before Tuesday night's 10-1 victory over the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park, the team welcomed back Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber from the 10-day injured list. Their return was a boost for the Phillies, adding two of baseball's most dangerous hitters back to the lineup. "Hopefully Richie Allen Jersey, this is the last little hurdle we face," Schwarber said before the game. However, the Phillies faced a setback during the game as Zack Wheeler exited after five innings due to tightness in his left lower back. Johan Rojas also left after the seventh inning, following a pitch to his right forearm. Rojas reassured everyone that he was fine, but Wheeler expressed hope that he would be able to make his next start against Oakland on Sunday. He acknowledged, though, that his back had been a bit problematic recently. "I’ve been dealing with it here and there," Wheeler said. "It started bothering me after I landed awkwardly on the mound last month, and it just tightened up then." Fortunately, the Phillies' rotation has been mostly healthy this season, with Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suárez, and Cristopher Sánchez all in good form. But injuries to Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull have tested the depth of the rotation. Rookie Michael Mercado had been filling in, but Tyler Phillips will take over as the No. 5 starter for Saturday’s game. Behind Phillips in Triple-A, the Phillies have Max Castillo, Kolby Allard, and David Buchanan. While Wheeler aims to pitch on Sunday, the team could decide to give him extra rest if they think his back needs more time to heal. Adjustments to the rotation could also come after the All-Star break to allow Wheeler a few more days if necessary. "We'll take it one day at a time and see how it feels," Wheeler explained. For a few innings on Tuesday, the Phillies looked almost fully healthy. After a 5-4 record without Harper and Schwarber, they are 14-12 without J.T. Realmuto, who is expected to return after the All-Star break. "It adds so much depth," Wheeler commented about the return of Harper and Schwarber Jim Eisenreich Jersey. "They are two of the best hitters in the game. Having them back in the lineup is huge." On Tuesday, Schwarber batted leadoff and Harper hit third. The entire Phillies lineup overwhelmed Dodgers starter Bobby Miller, who gave up 10 hits and nine runs over just four innings. The Phillies' bottom of the order—Brandon Marsh, Rafael Marchán, and Rojas—each reached base and scored during a big second and fourth inning. Schwarber’s second-inning single drove in two runs, and in the fourth, he walked to load the bases, setting up Trea Turner’s grand slam to put the Phillies up 8-0. "That depth is key to our success," Turner said. Though Harper went without a hit, he demonstrated his health with a sprint down the first-base line after a line drive that was mishandled by Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman. Statcast recorded Harper’s sprint speed at 29.1 feet per second, marking the fastest he has run this season and since July 2023. Harper may have said he would "play smart," but his sprint proved otherwise. Manager Rob Thomson, concerned with player health, pulled Harper and Turner later in the game with the Phillies holding a commanding lead. The Phillies have faced their fair share of injuries to star players in recent years, including Wheeler, who missed some time in 2022. This season, they’ve dealt with injuries to Harper, Schwarber, Turner, Realmuto, Walker, and Turnbull but remain the best team in baseball. However, they understand the importance of not overdoing it, as they don’t want to risk further setbacks Dave Hollins Jersey.
