Scott Sports manufactures the Scott bikes range and is one of the few successful bike manufacturers to create cycles used by athletes across several sports areas. The company specialises in winter sports, running and motorsport and bikes.
The company history:
Ed Scott, an engineer by profession and a skier in 1958, created the first tapered aluminium ski pole, superseding the bamboo and steel varieties used at the time. The brand grew and moved into Europe in 1978, forming a headquarters in Fribourg (Switzerland). It now has its base in Givisiez.
The brand then shifted its focus to bikes and Scott stamped its name in history books by creating the first aero handlebar in 1989. The famous cyclist Greg LeMond used the same during his Tour de France win in the same year.
In 1995, the company created the first carbon Scott mountain bike and by 2007, it gave cyclists the lightest road bike available - the 790-gram Scott Addict frame, which tilted the weight at 5.9kg when built.
Moving with emerging trends, in collaboration with Bosch, Scott engineered a range of stylish and user-friendly E-bikes in 2011 and made further enhanced the mountain bike technology with the use of the 27.5" wheels in 2012.
